i only have one email address from the DSL ISP

Many ISPs will provide you with more than one email address. Have you determined you are really only allowed one?

Alex, I have not done this myself, but in OE5 HELP under ADDING ACCOUNTS it says...

>To add a mail or news account
You will need the following information from your Internet service provider (ISP) or local area network (LAN) administrator:

For mail accounts, you'll need to know the type of mail server you use (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP), your account name and password, and the name of the incoming mail server and, for POP3 and IMAP, the name of an outgoing mail server.

For a news account, you'll need to know the name of the news server you want to connect to and, if required, your account name and password.

On the Tools menu, click Accounts.

In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click the Add button.

Select either Mail or News to open the Internet Connection Wizard, and then follow the instructions to establish a connection with a mail or news server.
Tips
Each user can create multiple mail or news accounts by repeating the procedure above for each account.

You can get a free mail account from Hotmail, which uses HTTP servers.

Alex

In Outlook express, go to tools/accounts/new and enter the proper info. You may have to contact those people you have the email accounts with to get the proper url for HTTP accounts or the info for pop3 server names.

hi alex

thanks for the nice thoughts about win2000pro. and if you do elect to move to it yourself, be sure to share your experiences with us here on the thread, okay?

i see that several folks have pitched in with responses to your email dilemma. all that i can add is that i am sure there must be software available to go out and retrieve those multiple accounts for you. have you endeavored to search for such tools?

perhaps one of the solutions offered has already fixed you up. i hope so.

:)

mr. mark & tread,

My thanks to all who posted their suggestions for getting
my second PC collect emails into Outlook from free email sites.

Problem solved! The steps I have taken:

- Leave email on server when accessing from first PC, so the
second will have access to it later on.

- Find a free email site which allows transfer of email to your designated other site. ( yahoo.com, myrealbox.com) Make
sure it supplies a valid POP3 incoming email address.

- Set up Outlook to collect email from those sites ( tools/accounts/add complete info on connection wizzard)
outgoing smtp has to be the DSL site one uses.

- Presto and I have an independent email setup for my wife
on the second PC, with one registered email address for us both.

Again, this is a great tread! Thanks, keep it up gang!

Oh yea, one more problem, I am still using Norton AV 4.0
with win98 and win98SE, do the Live Updates regularly, but
I can't seem to find any evidence where the new files are
uploaded to? It shows that downloading so many Kb's but
none of the files seem to be updated. Where do I look to find those new updated virus files?
