The general public is not as focused on the stock market as we are, but it may well be a reason that the press chooses to portray these issues as they do. I think I heard that >$300 trillion have been lost this year. (Does that number sound possible?)

There is a large measure, too, of looking for a single devil to explain the bad things that are happening, when of course those bad things are due to a bewildering complexity of factors - among which is one's own confusion, greed, blindness, sloth, or stupidity.
