BOJ remarks raise speculation of zero-rate return
(UPDATE: Updates with market, adds Muto comments, background)

By Keiko Kanai

KOBE, Japan, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Remarks on Thursday by the Bank of Japan's (BOJ) deputy governor prompted financial market speculation that the central bank could return to its policy of driving interest rates to virtually zero.

Speaking to reporters in Kobe, western Japan, Sakuya Fujiwara did not rule out the possibility that the BOJ could return to the zero-rate policy, which it abandoned in August citing signs of a pick-up in Japan's fragile economy.
