Vendor Financing.....

Vendor financing is a shakey business practice that is often utilized by companies that cannot compete on the merit of their product and service. In the networking area the biggest users of this unsound business practice are Lucent, Nortel, Cisco, and Alcatel. Ciena does not vendor finance per se.

The news item said that CIEN wrote off for 'bad accounts' and 'stock option taxes' to the tune of 5 cents for a net of 9 cents.

Thta almost sounds like they must have financed their customers who then ended up not paying.
