<But what keeps changing is "a PC of reasonable MHZ". I remember when "a PC of reasonable MHZ" ran at 4.77MHZ and 8MHZ was a high performance "turbo" speed invoked through a control key sequence. >

Those were the days to invest in the PC segment. Nowadays, the software is so far behind hardware (except for a few niche applications and games) it is not even funny. I was talking to a CFO of a small tech company the otherday and he was saying his MIS guys procure the cheapest PCs available at Dell and try to use existing PCs as long as they are better than 166MHz Pentium. (I don't like the Dell part of it but being a user of 233 PMMX, I can easily see where this guy is coming from)

<I know you have a 233 - is it networked? >

Yes.

<Do you have virus protection loaded that checks every executable called?>

I don't know how my virus checker works other than that it is from McAfee and scans everything including incoming stuff from the web.

<Do you have Outlook running?>

I use Outlook Express and it is always up.

<Taskbars for Office etc? >

Yes

<Are you running windows 2000?>

Windows Me.

< Is that 233 part of an intranet? >

Not sure what you mean by this. It is networked and behind a firewall.

<Have you seen the difference in web browser performance between your present system and a new one? >

No. For Internet, I don't see any real difference. Only difference I see is with imaging applications.

Bottom line: I got pretty much all I need. I wouldn't plunk in a grand for incremental benefits I don't care for.
