Rally pushes on

By David Hefner
DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER

Al Gore and George W. Bush supporters held dueling rallies Wednesday, separated
only by the Old Capitol and several barricades.

About 2,500 Democrats from across the state - most union members, students and
minorities - rallied for voter rights. Their battle cry: "Let the votes count!"

Among the signs: "The emperor has no clothes." "Bush trusts machines. Gore trusts
people." "Counting by hand since U.S. began."

On the opposite side of the plaza, a few hundred GOP supporters chanted, "Two,
four, six, eight, how many recounts does it take." One sign read, "Al Gore: Exploiting
racism for the sake of an election."
