Gore lost. By opening the process to
subjective "recounts", there is no winner. JLA

Journal: 'OUTLANDISH' UNFAIRNESS: Gore camp's feigned surprise at the plain and simple truth
Richard Matthews - Staff
Thursday, December 7, 2000

This is how far we have come in the duel for the
presidency, from reality, truth, plain fact and perhaps
even, for some, honesty: When the judge in Al Gore's
election contest ruled that it would be unfair to count
only some ballots by hand and not others, The New
York Times reported that the Gore team hadn't spent
much time debating that point because they
considered it "outlandish."

No one as smart as the vice president's lawyers
could think any such thing, of course. They surely
know that this is the single most important --- and
most damaging --- argument against their effort to
dredge up the few hundred more votes it would take
to undo George W. Bush's narrow victory. Their best
tactic, then, has been to ignore it, or attempt to
belittle it when it raised its inconvenient head.
