China to Boost Electric Products
December 7, 2000 (BEIJING) -- China will build closer ties with foreign consumer electronic goods manufacturers to upgrade people's daily life and improve the country's electronics information market, according to a recent report.

Consumer electronic goods, which include technology and network products, applied electronic products communication products, home appliances and office equipment, are characterized by their rich technology content, and rapid innovation and development trends.

"Consumer electronic products have already become an indispensable part of people's daily life in this era of the Internet economy, which means great opportunities for enterprises in the field," said Gao Xinmin, deputy president of the China Information Industry Association.

Experts predicted that the sales volume for consumer electronic products in Chinese market will amount to RMB1 million (US$120,482) this year, a 9 percent share of the predicted worldwide sales volume in the sector for the period.

After China's entry into the World Trade Organization, its consumer electronics market will be opened to the outside world with all customs duties removed, which will force Chinese enterprises in the sector to learn from their international counterparts in the areas of technology, management and market promotion skills.
