Not only is that myth getting old, it's being proven false by real world carriers, Nextel included. As new digital systems build out, load up, and mature, inferences on spectral efficiencies can and are being made. No longer can George Gilder pundit's hang their hat on laboratory tests and point their finger at claims of far superior efficiency, it's time to prove it in the real world.

Sprint recently announced real world achievements of 5 to 7x analog capacity. A far and embarrassing cry from the 20 to 40x claimed from laboratory tests. Nextel has proven 3x analog capacity for cellular and 6x for direct connect.

Not exactly an earthshaking revelation, eh?
