Big Bill did early mention fiber for large and medium businesses and wireless for small business and residential.
MMDS is a jargon mouthful, so is just MDS which is more
more accurate but still an acronym. Yes he emphasized mobile
but did not obliterate fixed wireless. However, FON mentions fiber only as solution to commercial districts because that is both where it has loops as well as because
it has no millimeter microwave holdings, 24-40 GHz. If it did it might sing a different tune. COO of Worldcom Broadband Solution which is includes fiber + MDS at speech
last week before ibcusa.com BWA conference acknowleged that
when it has a customer that needs more bandwidth than DSL or
MDS can deliver and fiber not available it can and will "partner" with an LMDS company (includes 24-40 GHz).

Hi Mike,

Remarkably, Sprint lit up Phoenix, Tucson, Detroit, Colorado Springs, Houston, and San Jose with $8.1M of Hybrid equipment in the third quarter. Sprint reported 5,000 Phoenix customers in September, and cut back the number of MMDS buildouts.

americasnetwork.com <- is an excellent summary
