Softechie's Red Flag: Individuals Turn to Short-Selling To Play the Market's Pullback

"I'm getting a lot of e-mail with questions about shorting," says Bill Ginsberg, a.k.a. "Shortboy," who runs Shortboy.com (www.shortboy.com), a free Web site designed to help aspiring short-sellers learn the ropes.
....

Shortboy.com -- which features a smiling stick-figure mascot and an online tutorial called Shortboy University -- has seen its average daily traffic jump 20% in November to about 1,000 unique visitors, up from 800 in October, according to Mr. Ginsberg, as investors seek out new investing ideas.
....

Still, short selling is as controversial as ever. Some critics say it's too risky and too complex for most individual investors. Harry Strunk, a Palm Beach, Fla.-based investment advisor who surveys professional short-sellers, recommends that bearish investors consider "put" options -- securities that also profit from falling stocks but which have built-in caps on their potential losses.
