Prices:
12/5 12/7
Thunderbird 900 $168 $148
Thunderbird 950 $220 $169
Thunderbird 1000 $253 $198
Thunderbird 1100 $333 $241
Thunderbird 1200 $483 $289

Remember, however, that these are the "list" prices.
The OEM prices were already much lower. This price cut
is probably just moving the list price closer to the
actual prices. As long as they can get the blended
Athlon ASP around $180 or so, no problems at all.

Dan, Re: Strange, and maybe a little scary. Vacination can be painful, I guess.

If this strategy works Intel will be in a world of pain and AMD will be able to sell all produced CPUs this quarter (i.e. up to 9 million).

However, I see a very negative impact on ASPs. OEMs are getting the 1.2 GHz parts probably for under $200 now. Intel is charging for their 1.5 GHz P4s with similar performance more than double the price (for OEMs; customers pay, of course, much more). Apparently AMD tries to undercut them in the high-end -- the "low end" Duron and Athlon prices stayed very firm.

BTW, shipments for 1.2 GHz Athlons must have also increased much. For the first time since the release I saw them today in Germany (for ca. $350).
