Well there are certainly factions within any party that hold views that are more radical than the rank and file.

But I would have to challenge some of your characterizations such as "for prayer in school", "pro NRA", "anti- sex education, anti-public schools?

Come on now, really. Btw, I'm a registered Independent, but most principled conservatives would rightfully object to those characterizations.

Being "for" prayer in school from their pov means ALLOWING freedom of religious expression, (did you notice that the Supreme Court invoked God's Blessing?), pro- NRA? what does that mean? I am a gun owner, I don't belong to the NRA, but they certainly have the right to form an association to promote what they feel as it relates to the Second amendment. Anti-sex education? No, how about modified sex education. It's all about context.. Anti-public schools? No, it's about finding new ways of addressing what seems to be systemic failures in our current system. What is sacrosanct about the status quo? The poor children who are trapped in failing public schools don't have the luxury of time to languish while we debate.. My children were fortunate (Like Al's and Bill's) I could afford to provide private education for them them. Why should poor children not have the same options?

You said you would not come back into the "fold" until the religious right was "thrown out of the tent". Not very inclusive there, Atin. Smacks of religious bigotry. Imagine if non-Democrats said something like I'm not going there until all atheist and agnostics are thrown out.
