>>How about a DROP in unemployment to kill this potential
drunkfest?<<
A drop in unemployment might be interpreted as inflationary and kill any hopes a rate cut for the near term OR....a rise in unemployment might be interpreted as confirmatory of an economic slowdown and raise fears about a hard landing...OR a drop in unemployment might be interpreted as - the economy is still robust, we're not headed for a hard landing!...OR a rise in unemployment might be interpreted as putting the lid on inflation fears (at least from wage pressure) and be interpreted in a positive light. Guess we'll know tomorrow...

<<How about a DROP in unemployment to kill this potential drunkfest?>>

Seems pretty unlikely to me. The layoff announcements were rolling in hot and heavy this week. OTOH, the BLS may want to cook up the numbers one more time for "old times sake" to send Bubba out on a happy note...<G>
