If we're talking about short-term stock price fluctuations, we probably somewhat agree. If we're talking about growth of the internet, and the demand for Sun products that growth is entirely certain to bring with it, I don't think we're on the same planet.

No, then we agree. I don't have any doubt the Internet will be huge, but I think we're in for some serious growing pains for a few years. The business model for anyone involved seems to me to be create something, then after the fact figure out how to make money on it, only that ain't happening. This goes for all the websites and ISP's. Advertising is proving to be a bust, which means there will have to be a shakeout leaving providers that charge. That won't happen overnight.

Another point is that about half the world doesn't even have the proper electricity or phone service to get an Internet connection. This won't change overnight either.

"The internet is still on the same curve it has been on, doubling or tripling the number of users (depending on who you listen to) every few months, and I have absolutely no reason to believe it has even scratched the surface yet, or that its growth is entirely or even mostly dependent on the sales rate of desktop PC's. Nonetheless, how many internet nodes are in China compared to how many there will be in ten years?"

Interesting. Is this really still true? Even if it's not a number we should be looking at is overall traffic. How many bytes are being sent across the internet? We will eventually flatten out in terms of the growth of the number of internet users. But those users will send 100 times as much data as they do today. Broadband adoption will be what keeps the internet growing. The rate of adoption will determine the depth and duration of the slowdown that we will experience over the next few years.

SUNW is a good place to be for the next 5 years.
