The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday edition that Yorkton Securities has adopted a tough new disclosure policy that requires its analysts to reveal their personal investments in companies that are the subject of its research reports. Reporter Jacquie McNish says the Toronto-based brokerage told institutional clients in its morning note on Thursday that it also will disclose whether Yorkton owns securities in or its employees are directors of companies that are analyzed in its research reports. The new disclosure rules, believed to be the most far-reaching in the securities industry, come at a time when Yorkton is under investigation by the Ontario Securities Commission. The OSC is investigating whether potential conflicts of interest have been triggered by the multiple roles that some Yorkton executives and employees have played as early investors, advisers, directors, underwriters and analysts in various startup technology companies. Research head Roger Dent says the new rules "are not a response" to the OSC investigation.
