Which part of "fiscal conservative, social liberal" did you not understand? This is too taxing . . . besides, I could easily level the same stereotypical charge -- "please explain to me why conservatives seem to think they have the right to interfere in what people choose to ingest, who people choose to have sex with, whether people should have babies or not, who they should raise the babies with", etc -- but I won't stoop that low just for the sake of argument, life's too short.

Did Reagan pay for Star Wars out of his own pocket? I don't recall...

I think the idea of liberals spending other people's money and conservatives not is a misnomer. Liberals tend to spend tax dollars on social programs, while conservatives want to increase the defense budget. If you remember, Reagan INCREASED the deficit, while Clinton greatly reduced it.
