BRCM--Bel Enters Home Phoneline Networking Market With Transformers for Broadcom's ''Internet on a Chip'' Products
JERSEY CITY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 2000--Bel Fuse Inc. (Bel) (NASDAQ:BELFA - news; NASDAQ:BELFB - news), today announced its entry into the Home Networking market with new transformer modules engineered to interface with Broadcom Corporation's (NASDAQ:BRCM - news) recently announced ``Internet on a Chip'' product offering.

Bel's filter/magnetic modules provide signal conditioning, electro-magnetic interference (EMI) suppression and signal isolation in a small, high-density surface mount package. These HomePNA 2.0-compliant modules are designed to support Broadcom's new highly integrated products that deliver several networking functions in a single chip package. These system-on-a-chip home networking products are intended to provide networking and Internet connectivity for over 25 million multiple PC households, in addition to millions of portable PC owners requiring network and Internet access from home, office or remote locations. Broadcom's new products are designed to support the recently announced strategic supplier relationship with Gateway Inc. (NYSE:GTW - news) to support their new ``Connected Home'' initiative.

``As a strategic supplier in this groundbreaking Broadcom/Gateway alliance, Bel is positioned to partner in the success of an emerging communications technology that will make the Internet-connected home a reality,'' said Dan Bernstein, president of Bel. ``Our magnetic products are an essential component of this strategy to provide high speed, cost-effective connection to the Internet and other digital devices for millions of mobile computer users and multiple PC households,'' he added.

The ``Connected Home'' initiative provides multiple options for home Internet connectivity by broadband networking over existing phone lines and conventional Ethernet, as well as traditional V.90 dial-up modem access. Bel has been chosen by Broadcom as the supplier of magnetics products to support this strategy for Internet connectivity at higher speeds and a lower total cost.

Bel's transformer modules meet all required technical standards set by the Home Phone Networking Alliance 2.0 (HomePNA 2.0) of which it is a participating member. In addition Bel's HomePNA components comply with IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standards and meet UL1950 safety requirements.
