This is very very an US-centered view. Incumbents love that kind of thinking. Public service shiboleth. Because I mistrust government and big institutions and wouldn't like to have any state telling me which kind of line I must have.

This is because when you delegate them this they will take the opportunity to milk us. All in the name of defending my interests.

I remember when PTT's all over the world started splitting their postal services from the telecoms there was an outcry to protect the proverbial old lady in the outback. Incumbents nodding in approval. PTT's are history and the proverbial old lady is still doing well.

Half of this world's 6 billion population have never heard a dial tone and lack lifeline is not the cause of their problems.

I am sending this message over a dial up analog connection. I will never -ever- would trade my GSM mobile phone for this thing I use only to hook up to the internet.

I can do call forwarding call waiting, conference call all stuff that incumbents call "inteligent" network.
