Where unions do good work is where the union and the management get along. If they don't trust each other the products suffer. Just look at Firestone for example.

Problem is that it is rare when they do get along. I usually side with management, but there are cases where the unions are right. Seems like they shoot themselves in the foot a lot to "protect" their workers.

I am in the printing industry and I remember about 10 years ago when one of the union plants was about to get 2 or 3 new presses to print a major U.S. publication. The unions said they needed 6 people on each press and management insisted that 5 people were needed to make it work out economically for the plant (which I strongly believe). Also these types of presses were commonly manned with 5 people throughout the country. The long and short of it is that they could have had 15 new employees and a prestigious magazine title with a multi-year contract. Instead management decided to put the presses in a different location where the union was not as unreasonable and then laid off about 20 people.

How does that help the workers?

I guess if I went over my posts on this subject I would train my fire on the corrupt, socialist union leadership and not the poor workers they abuse.
