11:28 ET Sun Microsystems (SUNW) 38 1/2 -4 5/16: -- Update -- Merrill Lynch out in defense of stock following talk of accounting irregularities, Merrill says that Sun CFO is one of the most conservative and Merrill has no reason to believe that there are any irregularities at the company. Another factor for the stock's weakness is a Sanford Bernstein note, which argues that part of the reason for Sun's focus on the low-end market opportunity is that it is losing ground to cheaper Intel-based systems.

Maybe SUNW will start to get the same treatment semis got starting back in June or so when someone started to see the end of the semiconductor cycle. I did hear that their sales were slowing from some good sources this week.
