The speculators had been very short gold futures. They still are somewhat. The Commercials are short S@P Futures. They may cover, propelling the S@P higher. Or, maybe the S@P has much further to fall?

It makes no sense to me to short gold futures at this point, not with Greenspan about to embark on a series of rate cuts in 2001.

The longer it takes for Greenspan to start easing, the better for Gold over the intermediate term.
