Comverse Network Systems Provides Unified Messaging Service For Pacific Century CyberWorks ``U-Mail'' Service

UMS Leader Comverse Builds On Strength Of Global Commercial Deployments To Provide Profitable Migration Path For Telecommunications Innovator

WOODBURY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 2000-- Comverse Network Systems, a division of Comverse Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:CMVT - news), and the world's leading supplier of software and systems enabling network-based enhanced services, today announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide Pacific Century CyberWorks (PCCW), formerly Hong Kong Telecom, with its unified messaging solution. The powerful capabilities of the Comverse unified messaging solution will enable PCCW to provide its customers with an extensive range of new value-added services, the first of which -- U-Mail -- was announced recently in Hong Kong.

With a personalized U-Mail number, subscribers are able to access their unified mailbox, comprising email, fax and voice messages, from their telephone handset, mobile phone or PC. In addition, through the latest text-to-speech technology, they will also be able to listen to their English-language emails and reply by recording a message and sending it as a voice attachment.

``Today's telecommunications market is incredibly competitive, making value-added services one of the most critical aspects of the business,'' said Itsik Danziger, President of Comverse Network Systems. ``Service providers are looking to deploy value-added services such as unified messaging as quickly as possible, but to do so, they must be convinced that the platform they choose is robust enough to handle huge growth. In choosing Comverse, PCCW has recognized the superior feature-rich services, flexibility, scalability and reliability, as well as the telco-grade deployment of our unified messaging solution.''
