Dan,

<Dean Kent had this little blurb today on the KM133:

Note that this chipset specifically supports the mobile market
as well as the desktop market. Intel has reportedly been
shifting emphasis towards the high-end and notebook markets
because of the higher margins, and allowing AMD to gain
more share of the low and mid-range desktop markets. With
the Mustang core line of processors (Morgan and Palomino),
AMD will be able to finally offer solutions in the mobile
market that should compete very well against the Intel
offerings. (from realworldtech.com >

Thanks for posting. I went and checked the blurb as well as the VIA press release. The good news is this is available in volume now. So, at least the 1G/1.13/1.2G parts will not be sitting on AMD shelves for much longer and we now have a reasonable volume platform for Athlon/Duron for mid-range.

Not bad at all.

Chuck

Dan, Re: The ALi DDR chipset has mobile support too.

And even today's announced KT133A has mobile support (PowerNow! and OnNow -- do you know what the latter stands for?).

Edit: Sorry, just saw that Dean Kent posted the same information but I didn't see him posting anything about the KM133 -- did you mix it accidently up? I'm not sure if the KM133 has also mobile support (it would make very much sense but I couldn't find anything on VIA's website mentioning it).

Here's the press release from VIA:
