A divided high court, in a narrow 4-3 vote, ordered hand recounts across Florida that Gore's lawyers had sought in the hotly contested presidential election. In so doing, the court majority reversed a ruling earlier this week by Circuit Judge N. Sanders Saul. In announcing the ruling, court clerk Craig Waters said Sauls' court "shall immediately begin a manual recount of the approximately 9,000 Miami-Dade ballots that registered undervotes," meaning ballots where machine counts indicated that no votes for president were recorded but where voters selected candidates for lesser offices. "In addition," said Waters, "the Circuit Court [Sauls] shall enter orders ensuring the inclusion of the additional 215 legal votes for Vice President Gore in Palm Beach County and the 168 additional legal votes from Miami-Dade County." Waters added that "the Circuit Court shall order a manual recount of all undervotes in any Florida county where such a recount has not yet occurred." The high court said the recount "shall commence immediately" because of the shortness of time. Florida officials have said they must certify their 25 electors by next Tuesday for a vote by the electoral college on Dec. 18" If you don't like the news, have your friends sue again in the U.S. Supreme Court ... who ... after much deliberation .. decided that they only had the power to recommend that the FSC take a second look. Well ... the FSC took a second look and decided that a recount was is order. Been there. Done that. Said so since day one. IMHO, Gore will win in the end. Craig And no, I still don't care who wins. I only care that the law is the law and that we all get a fair shake. To those who read "the National Review" ... tough! And, to those who think that the Republican legistlature in Florida has the right to act, well .. they are have the right but they -- like the Florda Secretary of State, are moving too fast. When the count is over, then and only then can anyone decide what is fair. If Bush wins, "he will be my President". Yours too.
