Didn't you ever use these cards? They had them for about 20 years in our county. You don't knock out dimples with a finger, it requires the stiff frame around the chad hole of the votamatic or the card bends in a really big dimple. It would be hard to knock out a chad with a pencil or stylus without the backing frame of holes, and it would still most likely leave creases in the card. The stiffness of the chad is one reason that some voters don't realize how hard they have to push to actually dislodge them, hence the dimpled intended vote.
