Dear Carolyn: Even though they said count ONLY the undervotes its througout the state. I suspect they can get the Miami/Dade ones done by Tuesday, but I think Duval County had over 20,000. No one anywhere is set up for this now. Need to get teams set up STATEWIDE. Its not gonna happen IMHO even by the 18th. Unless the USSC puts a STOP to this WE ARE GOING INTO A CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS next week. Stock market will tank, could be violence throughout the nation. Protesters will be rabid. This is not a good thing for anyone but GORE. He's up there grinning like a Chesire. JDN

Carolyn:

what everybody is calling undervotes are abstentions. The machine did not record a vote because one was not there to be recorded. The percentage nationwide is 1.9%. The percentage in Florida ..........1.9%

<<Why aren't there a lot of Bush votes?>>

There are a lot of Bush votes.

The counting is not the only exciting part though. The Constitution is going to get a workout on this one. This is a once in a lifetime shot. (I hope)

What if there are a lot of Bush votes? Why doesn't anyone mention this possibility?

Check out the size of the undervote (numerically, not just percentage-wise) vs. the voting pattern of each county. The New York Times/Election 2000 site (you need to register, but it's free) has a good interactive guide to the Florida vote.

I think both camps had decided that recounts would benefit Gore by November 8th. That knowledge has driven all actions since.
