OT: OJ, Monica's stain, and pregnant chads:

We have, now, another American Story. Another saga that defines us as a nation, that tells everyone who we are.

Like the other stories, this one goes on and on till everyone is sick of it.

Like in the other stories, there are winners and losers eventually, but no heroes. Everyone loudly proclaims their high morals and pristine motives. Everyone, eventually, is exposed as a grasping, selfish materialist, who will say anything and do anything, to pile up and hoard his own power, wealth, and personal pleasures. All motives are selfish motives. In the end, everyone is covered in shit.

As in the other stories, there are no objective facts, no Truth, no Fair Play. Replacing them, we have: subjectivity, relativity, re-interpretation, re-definition, Spin, Public Relations. Facts and logic are used, not because they are true, but to bludgeon your opponents into submission. Everything is fluid, plastic, facile. The way to make something True is to say it loudly, cleverly, and continue saying it endlessly. You must have money, lots of it, if you want to make anything True. The money buys you lawyers, who can create the Truth you want. The money buys you access to judges and legislators and lets you mold public opinion.

The story is ugly and then boring, and I can't stop watching it.

What's next? (inquiring minds want to know)
