The Florida SC stated in their decision that discerning "voter intent" was the established precedent for hand counting votes.

The US SC must base their decision on existing law. The Florida SC presented a case supporting their decision which cited the US Constitution and both relevant US and Florida statutes.

As Bob pointed out there was a dissent, so reality is less certain than I portrayed.

AMAT up 10% today, bouncing off a 52W low, the biggest semi company warns............and all anyone wants to talk about is how Monica's stained underwear was found under a pile of pregnant chads, in the back of OJ's white Bronco, but the judge said the stain was just poisoned Koolaid.
