I am not expecting a big sell-off, only some profit taking and reluctance for new funds to commit. The bear market should be on the way out. This election process could go on through January 6th. If Bush's election is confirmed by the counting of the ballots this weekend then this could be resolved as early as 2:00 EST on Sunday. That is highly unlikely. If Gore comes out "winning" the recount, then Bush will challenge it with a Supreme court appeal, the FLA legislature will challenge it by instating the Bush delegates to the electoral college and the whole thing will likely be resolved by the U.S. Congress in January. That leaves the shadow of uncertainty hanging over the markets for quite a while. I do agree that the market is likely to focus less and less on the election process and more on the prospects for lower interest rates and corporate growth and profits.
