I think that there might well be a terrific mid-term changeover to a Democratic congress and that many of those evils will be avoided or rescinded.

I think that Bush's presidency may be so stinky that no one will be able to stand him after two years, particularly since (as I believe) there will be considerable economic troubles. These won't be Bush's fault but he will get the blame.

I go back far enough to have voted for Lyndon Johnson, believing that he and his congress would do all sorts of wonderful things for the country. Instead, they created all manner of useless public housing projects and started the Vietnam War. All manner of evil came out of Johnson's presidency. I wish I had voted for Goldwater. The extension of civil rights was good, however, and that might not have occurred quite so quickly with Goldwater.

But who knows? Old Dubya might turn out OK. In any case, I think he's going to win and it would be better to start trying to figure out what to do with that situation than to stew over what ought to have been.
