Mason--Gore wasn't going to ask for a statewide recount of all of the counties if Bush wasn't going to agree to respect the results, nor should anyone reasonably expect Gore to do so. And, as for the deadline issue, If Bush and Gore had agreed to a statewide, manual recount of the votes, they both could have asked the FL governor to call for a special session to pass enabling legislation allowing for it to happen, and all of this crapola would be behind us and we'd have a president-elect. Sadly, Bush refused.
