More accurately, the majority of qualified voters wanted slavery to continue. Since they didn't let everyone vote, and the ones they did were either slave owners or direct beneficiaries of slavery, that's no surprise. I think that the percentages supporting slavery might have changed a little if the southern black folks had been consulted, but that's just a guess.
