It's about a family so paralyzed by irrational fear that they lose the chance to marry the Prince. The mother goes to the cellar to draw some beer for her guests, sees an axe precariously perched overhead, and begins to lament that it might fall and kill her daughter before she's able to marry the Prince. Her wailing is heard by another family member (father?), who goes to see what is the matter, and gets caught up in her fear. Then the eligible daughter follows suit and becomes the third silly. Eventually the Prince wonders what's taking so long, investigates, sees how silly they are, and beats a hasty retreat.

At least that's my recollection of it.
