Even where you can just vote "yes" or "no" to retain an appointed judge, if enough people vote "NO" for that judge, s/he gets tossed. A new one has to be appointed, and eventually comes up for retention election. Also, if the governor appoints lawless political hacks, like Chiles seems to have done with the Florida Extremes, the governor himself might be ousted in the next election.

It works, if people pay attention. It doesn't, where they don't.

Sounds like you had a great time last night, and I admire and identify with many of your Libertarian views. From a pragmatic bottom-line viewpoint, though, only a well-organized group will ever be able to mount a credible challenge to the Demolib attempts to do away with civil liberties and rights, and that's why Libertarians and independents need to support the (somewhat and not well-enough) organized Republican challenge. The principles of Marxism have been studied well by the Demolibs -- including the fact that a well-organized minority can overthrow a disorganized majority.
