Peter: Given how pissed the Florida Supremes must be, it's not inconceivable they'll try to show how hypocritical the US Supremes are by overturning the Seminole/Martin absentee rulings to disqualify enough of Bush's votes to throw it to Gore. They could use the lesser remedy you suggest or an even lesser, fairer one that would still give it to Gore – e.g., they determine that x% of voters who apply for absentee ballots actually vote such ballots, apply that % to the number of illegal Republican absentee applications and deduct the number they compute from Bush's total absentee vote.
