Slacker,

re:Siemens

It is hard to believe that Siemens could
be such a substantial customer already.
This is especially true given Siemens
relationship with Infineon.

Siemens uses MMC in SL45. I don't follow
Siemens close enough to know what other
models may or may not include an MMC, but
I anticipate that Nokia and Ericcson (who
already have models that accomodate MMC)
and the majority of the remainder of the
handset manufacturers will include a flash
slot to enhance the product designs. The
use of MMC is limited to the upper tier
cellphones, so I don't expect that SanDisk
will prosper from these unit sales this
Christmas anyway. More important in the trend
to include the slot and the intense competition
between the OEM's to add functionality.

I will be happy to see Samsung and Motorola
follow the lead of the other handset makers.
Recall that the MMC/SDMC is built into QCOM's
basic chipset. Thus, all is needed is the
resolve of the OEM to add removable flash as
part of their marketing strategy. Since we
are clearly behind the Europeans and Japanese
regarding wireless services I still don't have
a clear concept of what killer app will fuel
flash demand in this market. We will probably
know within the next 12 months.

In this link is an e-mail from Siemens...
