Truth of the matter is Repubs oppose motor-voter because their success as a party hinges on shrinking the popular vote, not expanding it. It's an extension of GOP elitism, that's all it is. Besides, I believe when one participates in motor-voter, one is usually just given a voter application card along with his or her driver's license in the mail, so those checks that you called for still could occur.

I would be interested in exploring fingerprint or eyeball scanning to determine legitimacy to vote. It's a little "Big Brotherish," but if it were a fast-accurate system that didn't discriminate, I'd take a hard look at it.

Having every voter register every year is a little severe. One ought not have to be a political junkie like you or I in order to cast a vote. Here's something else to consider: If we conducted elections over two or three days, there would be more time for poll workers to straighten up some of these problems ... like when people go to vote and their names are not on the books.

Lastly, a little truth check: If you're going to accuse college students of voting multiple times, also include servicemen and servicewomen in Florida in that category. Some tried to vote twice on Nov. 7 ... via absentee and in their home precincts.
