To: Ilaine who wrote (108616 ) 12/10/2000 12:38:34 PM From: hdl Respond to of 769670 i thought they had papers re stay,and virtual writ of cert but not re whether underlying fla sup ct case should be reversed. the briefs are limited to 50 pages. a story re my closest to getting to ussc with relevance to deadlines. i represented a lawyer who allegedly defrauded a netherland antilles entity controlled by his former florida law partner of a million. i filed a bankruptcy in new york for the lawyer. he sold tax shelters. he had lots of problems. a day after the deadline to file objections to discharge and dischargeability, the partner filed objections to discharge and dischargeability. it was the only objection. the bankruptcy court, district court and second circuit held the complaint was late and therefore dismissed it. the ussc denied certiorari. like gore, the former law partner and his attorneys were not giving up. they had said from the beginning they were going all the way, not just to ussc, but to international court of the hague (boies and gore haven't said that, YET)-as a netherland antilles entity was involved. i have wondered if the appellant failed to get the notice because perhaps his secretary, who perhaps had quite involved, intimate relationships with the appellant and appellee had for some reason seen to it that he didn't get it. i always thought gore would do more for the presidency, than a tax shelter selling bankrupt lawyer would do for a million dollars. people criticize court street lawyers in brooklyn. some might lie, cheat or steal to get a few thousand dollars. i think the big firms with cases with multi-billion dollars at stake might kill the judge if they could get away with it.
