Well, Rehnquist allegedly didn't find skin color irrelevant, but that's another story. There's plenty of stories about people finding skin color relevant in Florida on election day, too. Maybe the legally infallible Bush campaign co-chair could come up with a suitable literacy test by next time around.

Robert,

I'm sorry. I am so poor at communicating my points that one could assert that it seems that you haven't read my posts at all.

I have stated without qualification that felons are not allowed to vote. I have asked for a constitutional reason as to why, but you aren't required to give it (despite your strictness when it comes to other voter's knowledge).

I think that my question "But are you saying that they shouldn't have the right to vote?" referred to the little old lady in PB county. You have successfully taken this question out of context and made it seem that I am saying that felons should have the right to vote. I guess you should receive kudos for that.

You know, why don't we take your argument a little further? Require voters to cite verbatim Article 2 of the USC! Don't know it? Sorry! COme back in 4 years and try again!

Still waiting for your CONSTITUTIONAL justification for disallowing felons from voting. Tell you what, I DEFY you to find ANYTHING about it in the USC.

Robert,

Perhaps I should construct a timeline for you so that there aren't any more misunderstandings.

121796 was a response to 121794. There was no mention of felons in 121794, but you take a quote from 121796 (that was the response to the 'little old lady' post) and a quote from 121792 and graft them together. Thus you make it seem like I am saying felons should be allowed to vote.

I agree that you have not provided a constitutional argument against them voting, but I disagree that I have ever said that they enjoy that right or should enjoy that right.

I hope this clears things up!!

Thanks!

Chris

Re: Literacy and knowledge are extremely relevant.

Yes, Rhenquist came to Nixon's attention due to his success in keeping Black voters from voting after they failed to answer questions from him like "what is the 3rd amendment to the constitution?" Now he's a chief justice. Much less crass than the questions typically used in places like Florida's panhandle. "How many bubbles in a bar of soap?" was always good for keeping the vote "pure".
