Dan--I do agree with you, amazingly enough, that Gore should have asked for a manual recount of all counties immediately, and I fault him for not doing it. He should have. However, there is no question in my mind that Bush and Gore, had they agreed to approach the FL Legislature and asked for legislation enabling the manual recount to proceed, would have easily persuaded the legislature to do so. And, for that, I fault Bush for not agreeing.

Both men chose their narrow political interests over that of arriving at a fair and just result, and we are going to now be left with a bitterly divided country.

Excellent point. If Gore wanted to "all the votes" then he would have asked for "all the votes" to be counted. As he said, "this is America. In America, we count votes." He didn't finish the sentence, he should have said, "we count ALL the votes, not just the ones that might be for me." He said he was doing it for America, not for himself - which is the biggest lie I have ever heard in my life. If a man can't tell the truth about wanting to be President what can he tell the truth about?
