Peter:

All that is left of 'Ethernet' is the bit ordering in the media and within the
packets/frames. Size or Type field indeed.

... 'wireless Ethernet' is defined by IEEE 802.11, promoted by WECA,

The meaning of words continue to evolve'

Thanks for the note- you saved me reading 1553 pages.

After some grumpy old timer mumbling about 'the real ethernet, back in 1976' I've
now decided that the words ether-net are too good to lose. So even if they become
marketing words, and have little technical meaning, they still can represent a easy scalable
way to attach data devices to a data 'cloud'. It has gone way beyond the fat physical
cables and into the wild blue wireless yonder.

I thought they were going to call 802.11 WI-FI, a horrible name that alone makes me
accept 'ethernet' as a brilliant alternative. But isn't "wireless ethernet" a pleonasm?
