The United States Supreme Court has decided who our next president will be. The only question now is how they will couch their opinion in such a way that it will appear they acted lawfully and impartially to get their man in. If they rule that their will be no hand recount I think they will open themselves up to too much criticism as this goes against the state laws which they have went on record as saying are the rules to be followed. The only way they can make it look like their putsch is halfway legal is to allow the recount to go forward.

If they rule that the recount shall continue under existing laws they will have to rely on the Florida Legislature to name Bush electors because Gore will get enough votes to overcome Bush's lead. This may have been their plan and the stopping of the recount may have been just a stalling ploy so the Legislature could elect Bush on the 13th before the recount is done. They would also have to assume that those electors would be counted. I don't think they will take that chance. I think they may allow the recount to continue but under rules that will guarantee a republican victory even if they have to count enough of the votes themselves to swing it their way. By doing that they would give Bush something to point at in his attempt to show he was elected legally.

I hope I am wrong because if we can't rely the US SC to be impartial then who can we rely on?
