so far on the monitor prob i have been able to eliminate a good amount (75%+) of the problem by increasing the refresh rate from 60hertz to 100hertz.

in doing so, my desktop developed a vertical black band on the right side of the screen that seemed to increase in width as i adjusted the refresh rate upwards. (i have no idea if or how the two are connected.) prior to the rr adjustment, i had noticed this band and it was about 1/4" in width. suddenly it was 1". this led me to my monitor controls (something that i confess to never having to bother with). i was able to adjust both the width and the horizontal positioning to bring the screen into perfect alignment. i'm very pleased about that.

thank you again for your suggestions.

:)
