Please read the entire opinion before spouting off.

Scalia did not say anything close to your post.

His concern was with a lack of standards, fairness and confidence.

BTW, What about the Justice Gore as "Our Side"?

Wake up and get informed.

OT:
"...The Scalia decision and order firmly places the Supreme Court in the political quagmire, instead of remaining above it. ..."

Nicely put, Art. IMHO this thing needs to be played out in full in Florida, warts and all. And in full view of all of us. To seek to prevent us from learning that which we may find difficult to accept betrays a dangerous arrogance at odds with our democratic heritage.

Art, you've got the point exactly right but for the wrong reasons.

If the Supreme Court had not interceded yesterday, the scenario which was to unfold guaranteed a Bush victory, regardless of the Fla. Supreme Court's decision. It involved the selection of a GOP slate by the Fla. Legislature which was to compete with the presumably Democratic one imposed by the Courts after the selective re-count took place, putting the focus on the House and Senate which we can assume would not agree on which slate to select. The law then gives the Fla. Governor the choice of selecting which slate would vote at the Electoral College. This naturally guarantees a Bush victory.

This scenario is still good even if the US Supreme Court decides in Gore's favor.

The bottom line is that Gore has known for a long time that he can't possibly win the end game. Gore's fight is a symbolic one which is doomed to failure. I cannot understand why he has to put the country through the travail of having the scenario unfold unless his sole purpose was to taint Bush's presidency.

I despise Gore for this cynical manipulation.

OT---Art --As an independent voter who voted a spit ticket in the election the only real issue about the vote count is "how you count a dimple or voter intent ". Since the Florida Supreme Court did not provide this and to me left total confusion in the recount process ---their is no end in sight except for the US Supreme Court to make a final decision . Ironic that of the four dissenting Judges that two were pointed by a Republican President

AB- HELP:- AOL 6.0 and MS IE 5.0

I installed these two on my Portege 7020. When I used dial up on thr AOL it instantaneoulsy not only shut down AOL but it also shut down the entire machine in a fracrion of a second ( something I would like to do deliberatly at the end of the day but have never managed to achieve at the same speed!!!!)

So I uninstalled the AOL and the same thing started to happen using dial up on the MS IE 5.0. Not quite as bad as with the AOL but still pretty unpleasant when it shuts me down.

Alos the PC takes nearly 5 minutes to start windows 98. This has been slowly getting worse.

I dread resinstating the whole system becuase I wipes out all your files and I don't fance that unless its an absolute necessity.

I bought Windows 2000 Professional but it looks very very difficult to upgrade the W98.

OK thats my tale of woe.

any ideas.

Best regards,

L

You are so correct. The decision to grant the stay was a polcitical decision and not a legal decision and was totally incorrect. That they may rule in Bush's favor (which is likely) still doesn't make the decision to stay the count correct. Those ballots are going to get counted (by more than one group). You will get Bush winning and you will get Gore winning. With Bush officially winning, the democrats are going to kick ass in 2002. The republicans better make hay during the next 2 years because Congree will go totally democratic in 2002.
