John: Agreed...The economic slowdown falling out of the fed interest rate hikes and soaring energy costs has decimated the tech market and $billions in paper gains...The combination of these 3 factors has resulted in a significantly lower level of "discretionary" spending, some which might otherwise have been used to purchase upgraded systems...Any weakness in AMD's price is likely largely attributable to the negative aura of these 3 factors and has little to do with AMD's relative fundamentals...

John, Gas is indeed the ogre, esp to many poor who have never bothered to insulate their houeses and install condensing furnaces. I predict that a federal program will soon start to fund house insulation and furnace conversions as the increased fuel cost is in effect an extra tax on us all, and it will throw us into a depression. Right insulation and furnace conversion can save 75% of the gas used by the typical house. These cost savings can pay the cost of the work in a year or two and save after that. Collectively the cost of house heating is one of the major costs of keeping a house. Landlords should also do this conversion. The trouble is most landlords who rent on a net basis do not pay for the gas....the tenant pays. Tenants have a short term horizon....why pay to fix a house up where you may move prior to seeing the saving. This will trap many in this bind. Bill
