Maybe, one of the major lessons we will take away from this is that decentralization and local delegation is not always a Good Thing in areas where there's a need for uniformity and certainty

Great observation. Let's face it if we just changed the word ballot to abortion every person here condemning the Supreme Court would be praising them for refusing to allow a State to refuse abortions.
What this country needs is to examine the worst case fears of both sides and determine what can we do to ensure that they will not happen.
So far bipartisan to me has been liberals saying I want a million things and if you give me half of them than that is bipartisan.
Perhaps a compromise could go as follows. The left would allow religious people to have vouchers for religious schools . They could do like the French and only pay for the non-religious teachings.
The religious people could continue to moralize about abortion but agree to end efforts to overturn Roe vs Wade.
That is just an off the cuff example but perhaps the national debate should move from political to philosophical. That great philosopher who said "cant we all get along " needs to be heard. The question is how can we all get along.
Just a thought but if we dont learn how to live with each other and respect each other's right to live in the manner they choose we are headed for disaster.
