Lesson 4: BASHERS WILL LIE TO YOUR FACE.

Never trust a
Basher. The truth on startup companies is that they make mistakes.
What new company hasn't? The Basher will compare your issue to a
another companies, financials - deals - management, etc., trying to lure
you into making an Apples to Oranges comparison. Remember each
company is unique and while it is prudent to seek out established
indicators, do so with care and don't take someone else's word for it.
Strive to come up with at least a "six-pack" of indicators so your vision
of the state of a company is not tied to a single barometer. Not doing
so is tantamount to going to a Race Track and betting on the "Pretty
Brown Horsey".
BASHERS WANT TO WHISPER IN YOUR EAR - PLANT A SEED
OF DOUBT, AND HOPE THAT YOU ARE NOT SAVVY ENOUGH
TO RESEARCH THE TRUTH ON YOUR OWN.
This is how they achieve their greatest success.
DOUBT + FEAR + LAZINESS = BAIL OUT!
This is your investment... work for it, protect it and don't panic on the
words of very shadowy figure that "has your best interest in their heart".
Consider that one factor: Someone you have never met, is not a member
of your family, is now, out of the goodness of their hearts - GIVING YOU
FREE ADVICE (that you didn't ask for). It's a no brainer.
They have motives $$$$$$$$$$$$.

And just who is Fahrenheit records? Oh, I forgot, these are major recording labels aren't they!

This is a new technology, and everyone will try and make the grade of supreme encryptor.

What are the revenue projections from these contracts? Do they have a Thomas Weisel Partners touting them like TTRE?

Good luck to one and all. Maybe we should all cover our bets and buy both, unless Lieseeker/Truthseeker is SHORTING both.

BEWARE...REMEMBER THIS MAN HAS BEEN FOUND GUILTY BEFORE IN A COURT OF LAW OF LYING!!!!!!! IF YOU NEED PROOF, CONTACT ME AND I WILL SEND THE DOCKET NUMBER AND TEXT.

DVD Piracy Permanently Eliminated

SunnComm's super secret technology will supposedly do it-- yeah right

July 28, 2000

In what must be the vaguest press release ever published, a company called SunnComm claims that it has "recently acquired ownership to certain patent applications for propriety copy-protection and encryption software which is intended to be used to copy-protect digital music, video and other intellectual properties delivered on CD, DVD or via the Internet."
Certain patent applications, eh? Can you give us a little more detail on that, such as how it works? You don't have to give away the store, but you could at least say what it does. I should read further on in this press release I think, maybe they'll get to that.

"These technologies will allow media companies to distribute their content on disk or over the Internet without fear of piracy. A shrink-wrapped CD or DVD purchased off-the-shelf, which was manufactured using this technology cannot be 'burned' onto another disk or copied to other storage media. Internet content down-loaded to a computer disk, once burned to a CD cannot be re-copied to another disk or other storage media."
Which goes to illustrate a little lesson about PR-ese: when you've got nothing to say, say it twice.

Here's my big question about this mythical application that is going to bulletproof all copyrighted material: Is it going to work on my current CD player and my current DVD player? You'd think they'd be quick to include that detail if it would, but no mention is made of compatibility.

It's certainly possible that the film and music industries could strongarm the electronics manufacturers into supporting this nameless technology into future generation CD and DVD players, but unless this SunnComm technology is backward compatible it's going to flop and flop big. For all their greed and hubris, none of the film or music studios is stupid enough to start releasing CDs that everyone will have to buy new gear to play, unless they have more added value than copyright protection.

It seems more likely to me that this release is a ploy by SunnComm to get its name in the news. Interest in music and film piracy is at an all-time high right now and anyone who claims to have a silver bullet for piracy is going to get attention, whether it works or not.

See, it even worked on Your DVD Editor-- I just wrote 400 words about it.
