I think you meant to say the secession of liberal city states, not the cessation. Bit of a difference.

In any event, South Africa employed a similar tactic for most of the 20th century: allow the disenfranchised to form their own little countries completely surrounded by South Africa. It's really a sinister economic tactic.

Everyone typically talks about home rule and states' rights as something benefitting Dixiecrats and right-wingers. All I'm saying is that there's no reason why Dems cannot beat the Repubs at their own game, if they think a bit creatively.

The big reason many of our cities are in decline today is that it's easier to keep expanding the suburban horizon, i.e. taking more and more farmland and wildlife areas, as opposed to rebuilding our cities from the inside out.
