Finally, a post from you I can agree with.

There's just one problem...a strong 3rd party isn't going to happen.

Most 3rds are started from disgruntled members of one of the two majors. The problem is that they attract primarily apathetic people, people who essentially gave up on the other two. Hardly the kind of rocks you want to build on, because they don't stay committed.

Look at the Libertarian party...has it really grown much in the past 20+ years, outside of State legislatures. It is a very slow path.

More than 1/2 of the people who voted for Perot in '92, stayed home in '96. By 2000, it's performance at the National level was virtually non-existent. Perot essentially returned to the Republican fold.

As far as a coalition government, I say look at Europe where it is done...France is on what # republic now? and Italy?

The benefits don't outweigh the costs.

Maybe I should start working for the Libertarian party again. Based solely on what I see on the Internet, a political party which was fiscally conservative and socially liberal would be very attractive. Of course us Internet people aren't the same as the rest of the country, but maybe we are the leaders? I used to know what was going on with Joe Six Pack when I worked in printing. Someone on the thread has a sheet metal shop, is it Jeff? What does Joe
Six Pack think?
